Meet Dave

I'm a 30+ year veteran of the home cinema & smart home industry — including 20 years in the CEDIA channel — with experience spanning retail, custom integration & project management, manufacturing and international distribution, and technical content creation and instruction.

My philosophy is simple. Quality communication through technical documentation relies on the author implicitly understanding the content and the audience. It requires that the person doing the copy editing and laying out understands what needs to be said, why the reader will need to know it, and what they intend to do with it. That is, it answers the why for both sides, requiring user-centric design thinking. That's what I do.

One good example is the CEDIA/CTA-RP22 Immersive Audio Design Recommended Practice. There was a significant difference between the draft version as it was handed to me by the extraordinary working group that had developed it, and the final published version. My task was to copy edit to give the document a singular voice throughout, cross-check standards for currency and accuracy, arrange layout to maximise contextual fluency, and produce the dozens of diagrams throughout for both technical clarity and brand consistency. Cover-to-cover.

And now I'd like the opportunity to work with manufacturers to level-up the presentation of technical communications, from product data sheets and user manuals through to product training courses.

Background

  • 1994 - 2003, The retail years
Started in consumer and pro photographic supply before moving to AV at the Sony Centre in the heart of Melbourne CBD, Australia, then manager of a specialist home cinema store in suburban Melbourne.

  • 2003, Founded Kordz
Leveraging my deep knowledge of AV cables, I founded Kordz to address what was then a significant gap in the market. Managing Director and principal designer of products, packaging, and sales & marketing materials (vector illustrations, graphic design, etc.).

  • 2005, Advocacy launchpad
Joined CEDIA the same year as signing the HDMI Adopter agreement, committing to standards compliance and performance integrity.

  • 2007, CEDIA volunteerism
Another milestone year, writing and presenting the first of many courses for CEDIA, debuting at CEDIA Expo as subject matter expert (SME) in connectivity and video.

  • 2009, CEDIA Board of Directors
Commenced first of two tenures on the CEDIA Asia Pacific Board as Chair of Marketing. That was also the year I started working with HDBaseT, a year before the official technology launch.

  • 2010, HDBaseT Adopter
Signed Kordz as the first member of the HDBaseT Alliance, after the founders.

  • 2016, new chapter at CEDIA
Departed Kordz and took up a permanent position with CEDIA in education, standards & recommended practices. Furthered &/or developed skills:

    • Writing white papers and/or copy editing group-contributed technical content

    • Document layout design to optimize audience engagement

    • Full copy edit, layout and image production of CEDIA/CTA recommended practices

    • Instructional design for instructor-led (powerpoint) and self-paced, LMS compliant online courses (Articulate 360)

  • 2019, Founded Meyer Projects
Continued consulting to CEDIA under the guise of Meyer Projects Pty Ltd, an Australian company focused on technical research, standards, and workforce development.

  • 2026, Ramping up Workforce Development
Departed CEDIA to increase focus on workforce development and broadening scope of work directly with manufacturers and technology providers in developing technical education and product support assets.

About the Logo

The arc is a nod to the CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram to represent our commitment to standards and accuracy. The marker represents our attention to direction and detail. It's not randomly placed either — in the context of CEI 1931, it points to D65, the standard video white point. Yeah, geek.
