Meet Dave
David Meyer is a 30+ year veteran of the home cinema & smart home industry — including 19 years in the CEDIA channel — with experience spanning retail, custom integration & project management, manufacturing and international distribution, and technical content creation.

My philosophy is simple. Quality communication through technical documentation relies on the author implicitly understanding the content and the audience. It requires that the person doing the copy editing and laying out understands what's needn't to be said, why the reader will need to know it, and what they intend to do with it. That is, it answers the why for both sides, requiring user-centric design thinking. That's what I do.
A good example is the CEDIA/CTA-RP22 Immersive Audio Design Recommended Practice. There was a significant gulf between the draft as created by the extraordinary working group and the final published version — it required extensive copy editing to give the entire document one "voice" with logical flow, and the creation of many dozens of diagrams for clarification of intent, with branding consistency throughout. That's what I did, cover-to-cover.
And now I'd like the opportunity to work with manufacturers to level-up the presentation of technical communications, from product data sheets and user manuals through to product training courses.
Background
-
1994 - 2003, The retail years
Started in photographic & imaging retail before becoming assistant manager at the Sony Centre in the heart of Melbourne, Australia, then manager of a specialist home cinema store -
2003, Founded Kordz
Leveraging my deep knowledge of AV cables, I founded Kordz to address a gap in the market. I went on to be principal product designer, and developed marketing and graphic design skills (e.g., I personally designed the Kordz logo that is still in use to this day) -
2005, Advocacy launchpad
This was the year I joined CEDIA. It was also when I became an early signatory to the HDMI Adopter agreement, committing to standards compliance and performance integrity. -
2007, CEDIA volunteerism
Another milestone year, writing and presenting my first of many courses for CEDIA, debuting at CEDIA Expo as subject matter expert (SME) in connectivity and video. Haven't missed a year since. -
2009, CEDIA Board of Directors
Commenced my first of two tenures on the CEDIA Asia Pacific Board as Chair of Marketing. That was also the year I started working with HDBaseT, a year before the official technology launch -
2010, HDBaseT Adopter
Became the first signatory (after the founders) to the HDBaseT Adopter agreement -
2016, new chapter at CEDIA
Departed Kordz and took up a permanent position with CEDIA in education, standards & recommended practices. Developed skills:-
Writing white papers and/or copy editing technical content by others
-
Document layout design to optimize audience engagement
-
Full copy edit, layout and image production of CEDIA/CTA recommended practices
-
Instructional design for in-person presentation (powerpoint) and self-paced online courses (Articulate 360)

2019, Founded Meyer Projects
Continued working full-time for CEDIA but under the guise of Meyer Projects Pty Ltd, an Australian corporation -
2026, Going independent
Having departed CEDIA and rejoined membership, what I did for CEDIA I now offer to industry manufacturers to help with technical communication assets
